The way the suicide squads hijacked vehicles, including a police jeep, in their mission was a chilling replay of a handsome brat from Patna pointing his gun at passersby from a BEST bus a month ago. It turned out that he was a freshly passed X-ray technician, forced to become a sort of refugee due to lack of openings near home. But, there was no reason to take for granted that he was a typical ‘harmless’ North Indian youth with a ‘patriotic’ mindset. Only after shooting him down, did it become known that like many of his ilk, he was mad at perceived enemies in well-off states. The political masters of the Hindi belt, who are responsible for such youth turning into mindless thugs by bleeding people white, slammed the Maharashtra police. The cops were accused of abetting Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and its chief Raj Thackeray and ‘murdering the Patna youth’.


However, just as Mumbai was burning, lesser worthies from the belt, peddling their own brands of nationalism’, joined in with their own assault. Demanding protection to locals from unrestrained influx of white-collar labourers, jeopardising their opportunities is dubbed as parochialism by these rabid ’Rashtriyawadis’ (nationalists). Centuries-old linguistic and social ’asmita’ (pride and belonging) by various ethnic identities is trashed. Hostile political activities by these leaders descending frequently on Mumbai, alienates settlers to locals instead of ironing out conflicts. It is because they perpetuate a distinct identity for the settlers, with a view to create vote banks. Also, there are vested interests in various regions, which stand to benefit by unfair imposition of values and language of one section over others. The apologists of the ’national’ establishment stoke the fire by instigating settlers to fight against preference to locals, what MNS fights for.

According to the ‘intellectual’ instigators, Maharashtra has a very long coastline vulnerable hostile sea based penetration and assaults. But, the military of India is largely composed of "men of original Hindi states such as UP and Bihar and Rajasthan, followed by the likes of Punjab and Haryana!" Even if the relevance of the point is not questioned, Maharashtrians do constitute seven per cent of the Indian armed forces.

The vitriol went on: "The Hindustan military with IAF and NSG commandos" had to be called in to save Mumbai and Wing Commander Sharma had to rescue the hostages. But, "Thackeray and the Marathi Manoos" went missing; Maharashtrians would be "singing the national anthem of Waziristan or Pakistan" had if it was not flying "Maurya Chakra and Hindustan flag as part of Bharat!." The inference was that the ‘Mauryans’ (led by Lalu Prasad and Rabri?) must be allowed to flood the state without any regulation!

Bhojpuri actors Bipin Bihari and Manoj Mishra Mihir, meantime, mounted a campaign titled "Raj Thackeray Ka Ilaaj: Let’s Fight Back". Supporters of the jokers were urged to lodge an FIR against Raj Thackeray in different courts. The second-named ’leader’ filed one at Gorakhpur to ‘lead’ them!

Despite such ’nationalistic’ harassment, MNS had organised blood donation camps in Mumbai. It had pressed ambulances running around city and more than 500 of its members donated blood for injured victims. Of course, they refrained from ’disaster tourism’ undertaken by the likes of Manmohan Singh, Advani or Ram Gopal Verma! But, it was ’disconcerting’ for some patriots to observe that Raj Thackeray ‘had gone missing’. Others were shouting “Where is Marathi Manoos, Raj Thackeray and his bunch of goons?”

It must be admitted that while Raj Thackeray may be just another Indian politician – known more for amassing wealth than serving the community – MNS does appear to be the least harmful outfit for the constituency it serves. Raj Thackeray is far better than the estranged loyalist of the Nehru dynasty, Amitabh Bachchan, who exposed himself as another one of the questionable petty politicians of India, ready to stoop to any low. The crorepati actor had fraudulently become a ‘farmer’ to grab land. And, he now has for his buddy the worst wheeler dealer of India.

Preference to locals in opportunities is a legitimate concept, recognised all over the world. Every state of India, from Orissa to Tamil Nadu, implements it because it makes sense economically and sociologically. MNS is only demanding effective implementation, so that only the categories of migrants to mutually benefit are encouraged to come in. Even though it may irk white collar clerical labour, regulation will be good even for productive skilled labour. Migrants needed by the community and those already resident legitimately would welcome regulation in their own interest. The ’Rashtriyawadis’ are only robbing all empathy that such migrants enjoy in local communities. Fanatical advocacy of a free-for-all in migration in the name of ‘unity of the country’ will not have takers in any state.

Let's first kill these terrorists

Terrorists are not humans. They are not animals. They are worse than the scum of the scums, in fact they don't even deserve a gender. A big "fuck-you" to all these "anti-human rights violations organizations" who want to bare their breasts and offer these reprehensible cowards their teat. Suckle these agents of evil on your own time, just don't do it on our planet. Mollycoddling terrorists under the guise of "humane" treatment is just asinine. I understand there is a fine line between a terrorist and a person with a genuine cause who protests in a violent fashion. But what human kills 5 year olds? What human goes to a crowded railway station and "sprays" bullets? Nuh-uh. Not human. Not homo sapiens. In a survival of the fittest world, it's time we take note of this weed that strangles the healthy plants in our greenhouse. It is time to use some serious weedicide, and ensure that the interests of homo sapiens are protected. Let us come together, lay aside our differences and root out these inhomo alqaedensis or inhomo talibanensis out from the face of the earth.

However, before we begin this pest-elimination, there are a few home-grown roaches that need to be taken care of. If I were as magnanimous and resourceful as Kishore Samarite, I would have declared bounties. But, it will give me immense internal pleasure and satisfaction, if somewhere were to behead these creatures and use their skulls as chamber pots. So, here goes:

This pile of smelly cat faeces masquerades as a white-clad human. When the worms in the shit start squirming, this excrement opens its mouth and babbles in fluent moronics. Divisive and caste/religion-based moronics are its speciality. It's most famous agenda is wooing Muslim minorities. Yeah, the 11% of the second most populous nation in the world, which is a minority. Apparently, the way this turd thinks that Muslims can be uplifted is by granting them special privileges and reservations. In this reeking heap of filth's opinion, a great way to uplift Muslims is by including them in the same class as "backward" classes in Hindu society, and then treat them with the same broad brush. Wow. What a notion of progress - make them backward and give them free jobs, they will become suddenly advanced. Duh, didn't the amoeba in your brain tell you that granting reservations is a sure way to keep propagating the divisive and anti-integration agenda in the society? Does a upper-caste meritorious person whose job is displaced by a less meritorious person just because he is a backward Muslim feel happy and positive towards the Muslim community?

Hey, but the little shits can't be expected to really think. It can be expected to expresses its solidarity with SIMI. SIMI is of course the known hot-bed of these ghouls perpetrating their brand of intolerant Islam. It opposes creation of a FBI like agency in India to tackle intelligence at a comprehensive level, because it thinks that its power at the state-level will be weakened. Wow. The only reason these sons of syphilitic whores don't want a FBI like agency is because then their brazen deeds in their own states will no longer be untraceable. They won't be able to puppet the state machinery into hiding their crimes. What else can a reason to oppose a nationwide intelligence and security agency be? Do they think their little pockets of terrorism farms in interior UP will be jeopardized? I bet they are scared that their huge election funds from Islamabad, Kabul and Riyadh will be cut off if they allow leeway to a security agency with actual power.

People of U.P., please wake up. Next time you go to attend this shit's rally, instead of accepting Rs.100 notes, or promises for 5 sarees, please just pelt this creature to its much-deserved death. It has NO INTEREST in your well-being. It just wants to use you for its personal gains and ugly politics. This piece of excrement is India's Terrorist#1.

Marathi Manoos has persecution complex? Uhhh.. No.

This article is in response to some of the comments left on my previous posts by people. I think some arguments presented here justify a new post, than just making it a comment.

You start by saying that Indian vernacular media is generally so gross that you can best avoid it. What do you base this on? I haven't read Hindi newspapers before the anti-immigrant incident, so I cannot comment on the general quality of Hindi publications. Maybe, they are gross. However, with regards to Marathi publications, I beg to differ. Publications like Maharashtra Times, Loksatta, and Sakaal (the three that I have actively read through my life), are not gross. Publications like Saamna and Navakaal are incendiary and tabloidish, so I wouldn't include them in this discussion. Vernacular publications define the cultural character of the Marathi society. Even though I learnt through an English medium school, we always had Marathi newspapers at home, and I take pride in saying that I read them as actively as English newspapers. Most media houses churn out a compilation of stories, jokes, poetry in form of a magazine during Diwali times - popularly known as Diwali Ank. Thus your characterization that vernacular media is gross, is inappropriate from the perspective of a Marathi reader. They do lack one aspect - readability for people who don't speak/read that language. But that would be saying English newspapers are gross just because the Chinese can't read them.

If you do lay your hand on a Marathi speaking person, please ask him or her to translate half the articles, interviews and reports in Marathi newspapers. Compare and contrast them with the selfsame ones in English newspapers. As I am fortunate enough to be conversant with both languages, I have access to both, and can clearly see that the "facts", "points of view", and "perception" in a Marathi newspaper is clearly different vis-à-vis that in, say, an English newspaper. Since I can understand Marathi, and can hear the Marathi politicians'
interviews, see the way they are reported in a Marathi article, and see how they are misreported in an English article, I fail to understand this incompetence on the part of the latter bunch of journalists. Is something getting lost in translation? Or is it malicious misrepresentation due to edicts from their newspaper editor (who is clearly better off siding with the "nationalist", pseudo-"secularist", pseduo-"liberal" intelligentsia). Or simply the newspaper editors are on the take from wealthy industrialists with vested interests. Who can tell?

About your point about having a persecution complex and individual minorities voicing their dissent - If they have a genuine grievance, they should have the forum to voice it, how much ever anti-Indian it may sound. If you look at the nature of grievances that people voice, I sense a pattern. People have an insecurity arising because of imposition of a foreign culture or a rule that their community is uncomfortable with.

What we must not forget is that there is a very fine line between the two, and in a large number of cases, where there is smoke, there is fire. A person suffers from a persecution complex when he deems that some imaginary object is persecuting him, when there is none. You further argue that the so-called "poisonous" Marathi identity is being injected into Mumbai by the recent theatrics of MNS. Let me tell you something. About 95% of the Marathi people I have met, right from school days, which without dating myself, I can say is far far before Raj Thackeray ever entered politics have been consciously aware of having been discriminated against and been given second-class citizenship in India. Many Marathi people that have taken part in this agitation are true Marathi commoners. They are not being fed vitriol by an imported mullah trained in a foreign madarasa. There are no temples dedicated to Marathi people where anti-North Indian agenda blares over loudspeakers every Friday after prayers. There are no Marathi churches, which have stockades of weapons. People listen to RT because in the heart of their hearts they find an echo of their own feelings. They do not listen to RT because they want new insecurities implanted in their minds. What is naturally a territorial instinct, should not be termed anti-nationalistic sentiment. What is clearly discrimination should not be called a persecution complex.

That said, I do not like protectionism and favouritism. I do not like the demand that jobs be reserved for Maharashtrians. I am a firm believer in meritocracy. However, meritocracy is truely a meritocracy only if the playing field is level and fair. If an examination has candidates only from a particular state, how is it a fair playing field? Hey, I hate reservations as much as the next guy. I think it is a stupid ultra-left socialistic movement that frustrates the truely deserving. But you cannot deny the need of fairness to allow merit-based selection to work! You cannot be meritocratic in selecting the most meritorious students from Lucknow for a job in a railway station in Maharashtra.

About your point about agitation against the South Indians in 1960's. I am not fully aware of the socio-political circumstances surrounding the anti-South Indian plank in the 60's that led to the rise of Shiv Sena. That was a different agitation for a different cause. Though I can relate to the South Indian culture a lot more than I can relate to the North Indian culture, there might have been a cause for agitation back then - I don't know it, and hence morally, I cannot condone what was done then. My personal experiences in South India have been far more pleasant than my experiences in Northern India. I have felt safer, a lot more at home, and have always experienced a sense of respect for my culture and traditions in the South, than in the North. I know this is a personal experience, and I am not trying to generalize this. On a related note, if you speak to a South Indian, and ask him his opinion on the Hindi hegemony, I will be very surprised if you do not hear views that echo the stir in Maharashtra. People don't like a language and a culture being imposed on them. That is against human nature! Trying to fit everyone in the same box under the label of nationalism or globalization is a flawed exercise.

Mumbai was made by everyone. I agree. Mumbai has hade considerable contributions from the Parsis, the Gujurathis, the Jains, the Sindhis, and the South Indians (largely Kannadigas from Dakshin Karnataka and Tamils). There have been a few North Indians who have had a hand in Mumbai's development too. However, nothing can reveal as much as hard cold facts, look at the embedded table for a particularly good one.

You can google and look up the facts. I found them in an article in the Government of India census web-site. There is little doubt that most of Mumbai's financial and economic development was largely mature by 1989. There have been strides in the last 20 years, but there has been more regression than progress with respect to the infrastructure. Do you mean to say that the 9% of a substantially lesser population in 1989 had larger contributions to Mumbai economy than the 50% of Maharashtrians? Do you think that a 9% increase (also note in mind that the population has increased a lot, so if you base the percentage on 1989 population, the increase is probably much much more than 9%) in the North Indian population, most of which is arguably unskilled migrant labour, is healthy for the civic infrastructure of a city? Are you trying to tell me that large masses of unskilled, poor people with day-to-day earnings don't form a prime vote-bank for political leaders from the North? Are you trying to tell me that this new mass of people who have known to form ghettos and cartels are increasing the safety of the city?

If I or any other Marathi person indeed had a persecution complex, we would have made life difficult for our persecutors a long time back. We keep welcoming people, and this is how you repay the Marathi hospitality? By abusing their culture? By politicking to make Marathi insignificant in the capital of Maharashtra? Heck yeah, we ain't taking this lyin' down.

The Truth that hurts

After almost incessantly perusing various blogs, news web-sites, and transcripts of TV channels and shows, I have come to a conclusion. As bitter and divisive it may be, it is the only conclusion any logical and rational person can arrive at. The pseudo-secular bourgeois media has a deep-rooted hatred and resentment towards the Marathi population. I would like to present an analytical argument to support my claim. Here goes.

Firstly, Delhi has always been the seat of power in India. The Hindi belt has always chosen India's prime minister, and the most important portfolios have largely been handled by ministers chosen in U.P. or Bihar. Only lately when getting a clear majority has becoming difficult that the sudden mushrooming of regional parties has cast certain regional parties into the national mix. But, still, it is the Hindi-speaking populace that has the significant say in choosing elected representatives for India. What do these politicians make as their bread and butter? The poorer, exploited masses in the cow belt. Based on caste-ist or class-ist fissures, they relentlessly play dirty politics to get elected. It is to their advantage to keep the common man in states like Bihar and U.P. impoverished. So what do these poor people do? They have no choice but to emigrate to other states. Yet again, these dirty minds see an opportunity to spread their tentacles into other states, other regions. By concentrating voters into regions, slums and underdeveloped parts of urban centres, they get a nice vote-bank. Getting their party member elected from such a vote-bank in a prosperous urban centre translates into big-time cash. By giving the deceptive appearance of acting in this vote-bank's interests, they ensure that that particular section continues to be a loyal support for their ambitions. Any blind man could see this vicious circle repeat itself ad nauseam, till the poor are reduced to mere cattle to be traded and exploited by inciting whatever passions they cling to in their misery. Statistics and history will show that the poorest communities are almost always the most desperate, leading to high crime rate, lower safety standards, and an overall decrease in the standard of living. How does this affect the local residents of an urban centre into which such sub-communities are formed? They see that the influx of immigrants threatens their very community fabric. Crimes start occurring where there were none. Cartels of special interest groups are formed. Culture, infrastructure, cleanliness, orderliness - everything starts showing signs of strain.

If you tell me that the national media and the local English and Hindi media in Mumbai do not understand this, comprehend this, then I would call them utterly stupid and devoid of any shred of intelligence. I do not think that's true. Media is usually too cunning to be this stupid. Then wherefore comes the continued apathy towards the genuine grievances of existing residents in the media? How is it that a prestigious publication like the Times of India (it's online presence is little more than a tabloid, but still, it is a big name), allow articles that make statements like Rahul Raj was an avenging angel of Patna. How is it that inflammatory statements from Bihari leaders like Lalu and other Bhojpuri leaders get national limelight? How is that MLAs that say "Hey, I will give 1 crore to kill Raj Thackeray" - get dubbed as heroes? How is it possible that the media continually tries to rub into the local residents that in Mumbai, the capital of the Marathi state of Maharashtra, Maharashtrians should continue to be second-class citizens?

How can Bihari leaders that claim that they will stop using Maharashtrian products like onions, Bollywood products involving Maharashtrians, etc., get portrayed in adulatory tones? Why is an agitation against an unreasonble influx of immigrants get morphed into a "why India is being balkanised" argument? It is YOU - the national media that is accelerating the Balkanisation of the Indian community by continuing your senseless assault against the local residents. Why does a police action against a bus-hijacker known to have attacked passengers require a judicial probe, simply because the hijacker was from Bihar? Where does this senseless propagation of Hindi hegemony stop?

I cannot find the answers to any of these questions in the role that mass media, a vast majority of the citizens of India, and politicians continue to adopt. There is only one explanation that really makes sense. There is a deep-rooted hatred against the Marathi community, since we have Mumbai, a truely great city as our state capital. People have still not forgiven us for claiming Mumbai from the ridiculous Mumbai presidency. People like Suketu Mehta have termed Samyukta Marathi Andolan as a revenge of the ghatis. It is this very alienation of the Marathi community that is being consciously achieved by the actions of the media and the politicians. You have now exposed that which we already suspected. You like to think of a Marathi person as a Ghati, a threat to your Hindi hegemony. The same as you would think of a Tamil person. Why? Because we are proud of our own cultures and heritage? Because we don't turn into cattle ripe for being converted into yet another loyal subject of the Hindi imperialism?

Shed that sheep's clothing, we can count your wolverine teeth from a mile away.

Oh, this is rich. How the hell do you write Om Nama Shivay in Hindi? Well duh, you don't. Because the script is Devanagari, for both Marathi and Hindi. How the hell would people realize it was written in Hindi? I think this little bit of detail got left out in Hindustan Times Patna reporters cleverly crafted "news" item. Hey, even I can go dressed in tattered clothes to my favourite Marathi reporter and claimed that my belongings were pillaged by Bihari agitators in Patna. At least that would be believable, it happens every other day (or was it hour).

Disgusting journalism = shameless propagation of unverified truths without any responsibility towards its implication on communal tensions and communal pride. Well played, Hindustan Times, well played.

Nikhil Wagle's article

Nikhil Wagle dubbed by many as Shiv Sena's erstwhile bête noire. Today, in his dulcet tones, he continues to launch heavy criticism against Raj Thackeray, MNS and the issue of Marathi pride. In a debate I happened to suffer through, his melodious questions ran like a refrain - "Why did RT not protest against North Indians when he was in Shiv Sena". Regardless of what the hapless Shirish Parkar would say, the refrain would return like a bad archvillain in a corny horror story. Well, to be fair Wagle seemed to browbeat Parkar by his sweet sounding musical voice. So I thought that a rebuttal where my brain wasn't being intruded by the journalist's ultrasonic ululations was due.

Dear Waggle, the problem of North Indian immigration leading to deprival of jobs for local residents was a faint trickle ten years back. I have fond memories of my north Indian bhaiyya bhaji-wala (vegetable vendor) polishing brinjals with his lungi. I also recall that my bhaji-wala bhaiya was also probably one of the few people for whom I had to dig into my Hindi speaking skills. I definitely do not recall 9 out of 10 cab drivers refusing to ferry me to my desired destination 10 years back, as much as today (then it was probably 4 out of 10). I do not recall even conceptual talk about SEZs. I don't recall steel plants and industries that bought local land from villagers in promise of jobs and steady income. I don't recall the selfsame industries bringing truckloads of immigrant labour thereby cheating the local man. This fact was in fact pointed out to me by this blog. So, what would RT protest about when in Shiv Sena? A future possibility of inundation of Maharashtra by potential Northern immigrants? Wow, he would have to be a super-clairvoyant to do that, don't you think?

In this article, Wagle says that it is primarily lower-class Marathi youth that is supporting RT. So now you want to divide Marathi society along class lines? Well played, Nikhil. It further says that the left intelligentsia are cynical and haven't protested. Well, firstly, every time the left shows any sign of intelligence, is usually a time to drop everything you are carrying and run hard in the opposite direction. Leftist policies have been primarily responsible for most amount of corruption, backwardness and poverty in India. Communism may seem like a hot and sexy idea. But actually it's all about boob-jobs and botox injections. Every communist society has degraded into laziness, lack of competitiveness, power for a select group of smart people, and utter misery for a much much much larger section. History has time and again proven the fallibility of communist and leftist policies.

While the closing parts of the article redeem it a bit, here's a question for NW: You are so opposed to RT because apparently he is a political pawn. But hey, he is at least doing something - an agitation for a cause. What are you doing?
